STEP – Support to Traning and Employment Program

Support to Training and Employment Programme for Women (STEP) scheme was launched in the year 1986-87and is dedicated to marginalized, assetless rural women and urban poor. The Scheme is funded by the Central government and implementing agency. This scheme is applicable for wage labourers, unpaid daily workers, female headed households, migrant labourers, tribal and other dispossessed groups.   • Mobilising women in small viable groups and making facilities available through training, access to credit and other inputs.
  • Provide training for skill up gradation Enabling groups of women to take up employment-cum-income generation programmes of their own, or to access wage employment.
  • Provide support services for further improving and employment conditions of women and for
    access to health care, literacy, legal literacy, and other information.
  • The Scheme aims at providing as integrated package of the following services to women to enable them economically more viable, independent and raise their socio-economic status.
  • Up gradation of skills through training.
  • Better and sustainable employment opportunities
  • Backward and forward linkages
  • Facilitation of organization of women
  • Support services with the coverage of

– Health Check-ups
– Referral Services
– Mobile creches
– Education facilities

 

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Should be an Indian Citizen
  2. Unorganised Workers (working as street vendors, agriculture related work, construction ?
    1. site workers, workers in industries of leather, handloom, mid-day meal, rickshaw or auto
    2. wheelers, rag picking, carpenters, fisherman’s etc.
  3. Age group of 18-40 years
  4. Monthly income is below Rs.15000 and not a member of EPFO/ESIC/NPS (Govt. funded).

The assistance under STEP Scheme will be available in any sector for imparting skills related to employability and entrepreneurship, including but not limited to the Agriculture, Horticulture, Food Processing, Handlooms, Tailoring, Stitching, Embroidery, Zari etc, Handicrafts, Computer & IT enabled services along with soft skills and skills for the workplace such as spoken English, Gems & Jewellery, Travel & Tourism, Hospitality.
